Be Sovereign

There’s something that I’ve learned about life that’s taken me a long time to get into my head and make it stay there. I am in charge of my own life. I’m the ruler. I get a say in what happens in my life because this story is about me and I’m the main character. I am not a side character or a recurring character and my worth is not measured by what I can do for other people or the part that I play for them.

Hells yes. Imagine the power of owning your life completely.

Not waiting around for someone to need you. Not inserting yourself into other people’s drama so that you can be useful or feel a part of something. No longer needing to be someone else’s other half but being whole on your own and wanting someone to share your bliss with.

The biggest thing that we, as a whole, need to realize is that we don’t have to settle. You don’t have to settle for medicore friends or medicore love or a medicore life.

It took me a long time to understand that. It took emotionally abusive relationships. It took days and weeks and months where all I can remember is a haze of stress and anxiety. It took putting up with family members that didn’t make me feel good and holiday events that made me cringe. It took living a life for 25 years that wasn’t truly mine before I got fed up.

It took me six years to create a life that resembles the one I’ve always had in my head. A flower garden, a cozy little home filled with cuddly fur-balls, a room for yoga/meditation/prayer and a life that doesn’t daily cripple me with stress and anxiety. Whatever you picture for your life – do it. Believe in it. Believe in your strength of character.

I finally learned that life is too short to struggle through books that aren’t interesting and that hold nothing for you.

“Edit your life frequently and ruthlessly. It’s your masterpiece after all.” – Nathan W. Morris

Think of your life like it’s a story. What characters are you ready to cut out? (Sometimes it’s okay to channel George R. R. Martin!) What does your happily ever after look like and what things are you doing right now to make it happen?

I want you to know that it’s not too late to have the life you want. It may not look like what you always envisioned. It may not be fairy-tale perfect. It will have its flaws and its downs and its chapters that end with tears and cliffhangers and there might be plot points that never get resolved, but every single day you wake up with the opportunity to write your life differently than you did the day before.

Be sovereign.
