I was originally outlining a plan for my newsletter this morning and I thought – “You know what would be cute? A fairy tale design.” And then when I started thinking about it, I was making all of the associations between different fairy tale themes and then I decided it would make a super cute blog post – and here we are!
8 Self-Care Lessons Learned from Fairy Tales
You’ve Got To Kiss the Frogs: You’re not always going to get it right on the first try and that’s okay. Whether it’s in love, your career, nailing a hobby, or meeting a goal – you’re going to fail sometimes.
I didn’t find my twue wuv until I was in my 30s. I’ve been blogging for a decade and only in the last few years have I really “made” it. It took me years to work on my anxiety and my depression to a point where it doesn’t affect my daily life. You’ll get there.
Keep going and don’t give up on yourself.
You don’t need other people to believe in yourself. Like the Loch Ness monster (one of my favorite mysteries as a child!), as long as you believe in yourself it doesn’t matter whether others believe in you. I haven’t had a huge support system when it comes to my work and in the beginning, it really bummed me out that no one seemed to care or be interested, but I kept going. And I’m thankful for that.
You won’t regret reaching those goals, even if you’re doing them alone.
You are the author of your own story. Let yourself be the main character. Don’t just let things happen to you but go out and make things happen. Do things that make you feel good about your story.
Choose today to add a new chapter. What shall yours be about?
It’s okay to be the dragon. Defend the things that are important to you. Create strong boundaries around behavior that you will and will not accept and feel free to bite the head off anyone who refuses to listen.
You are powerful and you are so much stronger than you think you are. Don’t let your anxiety or depression tell you that you’re not strong and brave and able to accomplish things. You are. You truly are. You’re braver than you know because every single day you work against those misfires in your brain that tell you to be scared or to curl up in bed. What’s stronger and braver than that?
Embrace your inner Fairy Godparent. And make sure that she’s telling you to drink water, get proper rest, and that you’re generally taking care of yourself. We all need a little bit of looking after. Be sweet and kind to yourself and ask yourself what tiny dreams you can make come true today. A long bath? An afternoon spent reading? A nice pair of shoes?
Your space is magical. Give your home a nice declutter and if you want to add even more magic, check out my workbook Magical Housekeeping and Decluttering.
What’s one thing you can do today that will make you feel better about your surroundings?
Don’t give up on your happily ever after. Whatever you’re struggling with right now will come to an end. And whether it’s the result you want or not, you’ll come out stronger and wiser on the other end of it. In the famous words of Dory: “Just keep swimming.”
