Samhain Correspondences: The End of the Harvest

October 31st marks the pagan holiday Samhain, not pronounced how it’s spelled, even though I usually still read it that way in my head after over 15 years. The standard Irish pronunciation is “sow-in” with the “ow” like in “cow.” Other pronunciations that follow with the many Gaelic dialects include “sow-een” “shahvin” “sowin” (with “ow” like in “glow”). However you pronounce it, it’s a time of reflection, the time the harvest ends, and an opportunity to get in touch with your ancestors. Celebrating Samhain is about honoring Mother Nature’s cycle. It is the end of the growing season, the leaves are no longer green, the flowers stop blooming, the grass stops growing, and the frost starts creeping in bringing death with it. The Earth turns within itself, things start getting ready for hibernation, to sleep. It is a bit of a somber time, one for reflection and grief. Some choose…

5 Tips for Political Stress

Are you suffering from political stress? Studies say that over 60% of us are really letting it get to us. I don’t know about you, but I have seen so much hatred and vitriol brought out in the last few years. I am over the stress, the fear, and the actual heartbreak of everything that’s happened. The current political climate has been such an eye-opening and divisive experience, at least for me. No matter what your political associations I think we can all agree that the last few years have caused discomfort at the very least in all of our lives. Relationships have been strained and tested and just everyone has passionate opinions that have caused a rift in friendships. For some people, it’s worth it and for some, it’s not. Why I love DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy)

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a behavioral treatment that was created to treat Borderline Personality Disorder but is now being used to treat a whole host of mental illnesses. It’s a therapy that is designed to help you change thought patterns and so much more. It teaches you how to re-program your brain and I’ve found it to be extremely helpful in whatever ways I’m trying to improve myself. It’s definitely on my list of self-care. Personally, I think it’s something that we should all learn just because it teaches us really good coping skills. My anxiety workbook, Breathe, heavily focuses on the different points of DBT to help with anxiety. Here are the four main points of DBT. Mindfulness: How to be in the moment instead of what happened a month ago/ year ago/ decade ago. Focus on the present and separating yourself from past baggage. Don’t let how you were…

Walking With the Goddess

When the first scent of autumn touches the air I find my Spirit starting to yawn, move, stretch up her arms to the sky, she shakes off the dust that’s covering her. Autumn is the time in my Spirit-Cycle where I wake up. I start to move into the spirit realm, I start to dance with my spirituality again. It’s always a bit quiet the rest of the year. I’ve learned that my spirituality changes with seasons. Like a planet rotating around the sun. This is when I get closer. Where the sun shines on me. This month I am listening to the call of my spirituality and walking with the Goddess. I am walking my Goddess Path. I ask that you walk it to, in whatever that means to you. Do things that embrace the Spirit of the Goddess, or the Goddess in you, or just make you feel…
