The Ultimate Guide to Hygge

I first came across hygge when I ordered a subscription box earlier this year. When I read the description for Hygge my first thought was “Wow, there’s a word for how I live my life.” It’s the perfect definition of what my life looks like. Pronounced “hoo-gah,” or “hue-gah” this Danish concept of comfort, coziness, and warmth. It’s the base of my self-care. From the Little Book of Hygge: “Hygge has been called everything from “the art of creating intimacy,” “coziness of the soul,” and “the absence of annoyance,” to “taking pleasure from soothing things,” “cozy togetherness,” and my favorite, “cocoa by candlelight.” Hygge is about an atmosphere and an experience. How I’m Practicing Self-Care This Month: Hygge

In May I was going through a period of depression. Nothing new, it’s been that way my whole life and it’s always a reminder to start taking care of myself more, loving myself more, and connecting with myself more. I have been all about wrapping myself in a warm blanket of love and comfort day after day after day. I love how good I’ve become at taking care of myself like that. It’s taken years of practice to not feel inconvenienced or annoyed by my own needs. To make time for myself and not feel resentful that I’m not being “productive”.
