What I’m Letting Go of in 2020

We’re only a few days into the New Year and as I’m filling out my Self-Care Planner I’m thinking about what I’m letting go of in 2020 as I move into a new year. A brand new shiny year with 366 days of magic just waiting to be filled. As I grow older, I find myself shedding more and more of who I used to be as I wrap authenticity around myself and become more and more myself. I used to give everything of myself so that other people would love me. I would try to be social even on the days when I was so mentally and socially exhausted that I knew I wouldn’t want to get out of bed for days. Loving myself wasn’t a problem. However, I still yearned for other people to love me in the same way that I loved myself. What I’m Letting Go…

4 Self-Care New Year’s Resolutions

New Year is my favorite holiday. Yeah, I like big turkey dinners and I thoroughly enjoy opening gifts but you hand me a notebook and a few pilot pens (colorful ink please) and tell me to plan a new year – I am on cloud nine. I love that feeling of new-ness and wide-open-ness and the feeling that this year might be the year it happens, even if I don’t know what it is. Plus it’s the perfect time to start working in my Self-Care Planner!  I’ve noticed that this year there’s been a bit of smack talking about New Year’s Resolutions and I wanted to share my own point of view. It feels like one of the hardest years, and one of the longest, I’ve ever been through. I’ve felt like a cloud of discontent has been hovering around me, blocking out the light. Maybe it’s because I’m prone to depression that I’ve fallen easily into the 2018 funk, but it’s real. The world is a scary place and the more adult I get, the more that I realize that there’s so much work to do and it can…

12 Things I Learned Last Year

2014 felt like a huge challenge in being true to myself and my wants. (Although don’t they all, really?) My sense of self was tested and stretched and my ideas about who I am and what I want and where I’m going had to be re-evaluated. Every year should be like that you know, it keeps you growing and keeps you honest and true to yourself. (Even though oftentimes those feels are painful and sucky and complicated and maddening.) I like to take a look back at the year and catalog everything I learned as a reminder of what to bring with me into the new year. Here are a few lessons that stick out: Stepping away from your comfort zone can be an amazing thing. Even if things don’t go your way you’ll feel braver for it and that’s a truly wonderful feeling. Makes you want to pound your…
