Connect With the Maiden: Flora’s Story

Happy first day of Spring! Time to stretch, stretch, stretch, and shake off the lingering chill of winter. It’s Springtime and that makes it the perfect time to share Flora’s story. It may be cold where you are but Flora is about to awaken from her slumber. She might be reaching for the snooze button right now. HerStory. Flora is the Roman Goddess of flowers and Spring and, as usually goes along with things like the birds and the bees, she’s also associated with fertility and new beginnings. Her festival, the Floralia, is held at the beginning of May and involves flowers, dancing, and drinking. I picture her waking up from her grassy bed and stretching as the sun’s rays alight behind her. She is all that is good and sweet about Spring. How Are You Wild?

Wild. Untamed. I love those words. But they scare me. I love being in control. It’s essential to my survival. It’s something that I cling to like a lifeline. I don’t just want it. I need it. It’s like I need to be able to breathe. Depression makes it hard to let go and anxiety makes it nearly impossible. Wild and Untamed give me a little shiver and not entirely in a good way. I wanted to face it anyway. Feel it anyway. I see the ways that I am untamed. From the outside, I look boring. Really, really boring. I like to spend the majority of my free time reading with a cat on my lap or laying on the floor doing jigsaw puzzles while I drink tea. One does not look at my life and think “There goes a wild one.” Sometimes it’s really hard for me to…

Goddess Wisdom: Yemaya’s Story

My spiritual path has always been rather Goddess-Centered. I remember a time when I was absolutely in love with Yemanya, or Yemaya, nearly a decade ago. There was just something beautiful about her that spoke of comfort, of freedom, and letting go and with my turbulent emotions, she was just what I needed. Her Story. Yemanya is such a Universal Goddess. She originated in Africa and is now worshiped in Brazil as well as Haiti and Cuba in the Santeria religion. Who doesn’t love a Goddess of the Ocean? A mermaid with pearls threaded through her hair. Yemaya is a Yorubian Orisha, or Goddess of the Ocean who is the mother of all. She is the source of the water that gives life in West Africa. She is a protection Goddess and also resides over fertility and creation. She is a fierce protector of women. When you’re going through a…

What makes you feel like a Goddess?

My vacation from the retail job is coming to a close and as it ends I’m finding myself thinking about all of the little things that keep me happy, fill me with joy, and basically keep me sane through juggling 40-hour work weeks and my job here. What makes me feel like a Goddess? A nice cup of hot tea while reading a book by SARK is a favorite. So are luxurious naps and sitting out on my balcony enjoying the fresh air. Taking a walk in the early morning for caramel frappuccinos are also on my list of favorites. Here is a list of some of my absolute favorite ways to tap into Goddess energy. What are yours? What’s a Goddess without her temple? One of the easiest ways to get me feeling all aglow and happy is having a living space that reflects that. I decorate in my favorite colors,…
